Twisted Party Braincrab / Headcrab

Tag ten times for Scientist, or gimmick the clock

Last updated:

Braincrab Mini-Game

Braincrab — Headcrab in some player mouths — is the tag wheel game. You tag other people with a braincrab. Scientist Unlocked is “tag others with braincrab 10 times,” at about 16% of Steam owners. Ten tags, not ten round wins, not a hidden lab map. Older fan pages invented extra tag rounds that are not on the wheel.

The other fact that keeps coming up in reviews and patch-adjacent chatter: the timer can be gimmicked. Lobbies that know the stall play a different Braincrab than lobbies that treat it as clean tag. This page will not publish an exploit recipe. It will tell you the gimmick exists so you are not confused when a round lasts too long or ends in a joke.

Playing it straight

Move with WASD, close distance, tag. Shift helps you close. E is interact in the global default set; whether tag is E or a bump depends on how the build feels in your hands, and this wiki will not invent a unique parasite key. Watch who is already tagged and who is hunting Scientist. Mixed motives: you want round survival; they want nine more tags and will peel off a dying player to farm.

Count tags yourself. Steam often only shows locked versus unlocked. The Skin Tracker is a paper 10-box.

Playing it bent

When a lobby gimmicks the timer, the “skill” becomes social: who agrees to stall, who breaks the joke, who still needs Scientist. How to Win says tag the people standing still explaining the gimmick. That line is the honest PvP read. Vampire Squid’s store copy still says there are no teammates. A stall agreement is a truce with an expiration.

If you hate the gimmick, say so in the Discord call before the wheel lands here. You cannot vote Braincrab off the wheel. You can pick 2–4 friends who share a rule.

Why the tier list says gimmickable

Survival ranking does not call Braincrab the hardest. It calls it knowledge-dependent. A first-time public lobby is a chaotic tag. A veteran private lobby is a clock joke with occasional corpses. Both are the same Steam achievement on the back end.

Capsule waiting still happens after. Do not spend your last braincell on a tag and then russian-roulette Freelancer by accident. Lobby waiting.

Crashes and leaves

If the previous mini-game’s winner already quit, older builds crashed before Braincrab could start. The July 2026 patch claims that fix. If the room still dies on the podium, recreate. Tags in a crashed lobby may not have counted; assume they did not until Steam pops Scientist.

Naming

Call it Braincrab on this wiki because the achievement text does. Call it Headcrab in voice if your friends do. Do not call it a half-life campaign. It is a party tag round in a $5 free-for-all with four other wheel games. Pair it with Blindshot bumping and Dynamite stops in your mental loadout. That is the whole science degree.

Private 2–4 rooms make Scientist slower because there are fewer bodies to tag, but you waste less time spectating the capsule. Public eights tag faster and die faster. Hosts still cannot pin Braincrab on the wheel. Players have asked. Until a vote exists, you farm tags whenever the game deals the crab, then you go back to last-one-standing like everyone else.
